Among the Quarian Fleet Marine Forces the are special forces operatives. These Special Operations are grouped in to small squads to handle things that aren't all quite full upfront fight. Once such squad is Echo Squad. Unlike other squads such as Dagger and Shadow, the four man team Echo manages to find its way in and out of trouble repeatedly.
Dani'Breizh Vas Yaska
Dani'Breizh Vas Yaska is what you might call a hardened free spirit. During her pilgrimage Dani found herself working as a "courier", transporting materials and messages that just couldn't be sent the usual means. After her pilgrimage she went to work on one of the mining ships the fleet has. She had actually settled down and married, contemplating beginning a family but during a mining accident her husband was killed. That was about 7 years ago. After that she just wanted to unleashed that fury on something and joined the Quarian marines. With her skills she soon found a spot as an Infiltrator, using her ability to remain unseen to walk amongst the enemy, finding out their plans and strategies before destroying them at point blank range. She started to comprehend how an enemy would think and was able to counter many attacks. These skills were noticed quickly as she was ushered into the Special Operations units, eventually taking over Echo Squad.
On the Geth: Most believe there are three ways to feel about the Geth; Destroy them, Control them, and the Apologists. There is a fourth and Dani falls into that mindset. Tired. Dani is tired of the war and just wants it over. She doesn't care how.
On Romance: Dani is bisexual, and at one point was happily married. But she has dated both men and women. Recently she has taken a look at the possibility of an interspecies romance and has begun to find Turian men and women attractive.
Weapon of Choice: Dani prefers a Reegar Carbine as the shotgun works well with her tactics of sneaking up and blowing your head off. Added on in an Omniblade Bayonet to add insult to injury. Don't piss off Dani. Her mean streak is a bit much to handle.
Myls'Stanis Vas Qwib Qwib
Most people don't think of Quarians as straight up Soldiers. With their immune systems the way they are it's hard for Quarians to take on a head to head battle. But that doesn't mean they don't have any. Quarian Marines while fewer in number than other races militaries are just as dangerous.
Enter Myls'Stanis Vas Qwib Qwib. Myls was built for the fight. Being the son of miners meant he was bred strong. Myls knew young his talents led to the fight When Myls left on his pilgrimage he almost didn't come back. He immediately signed on with the Mercenary company, the Blue Suns, wanting to gain as much combat experience as possible to come back to fight the Geth War. His fearless attitude allowed him to keep a cool head in many situations garnering him quite the reputation in the organization. He stayed with the Suns for almost three years. Upon returning to the Migrant fleet he joined the Fleet Marine Force. Myls's 'without fear' methods quickly got him noticed by Special Operations, not to say that he has a death wish, but Myls came to terms with that idea of dying while working as a mercenary. Now fighting alongside his Quarian brothers he will do whatever is necessary to defeat the Geth.
On the Geth: Myls has seen more than enough death. Whether it is related to fighting the Geth or simple mishaps while in the fleet it is all ultimately the Geth's fault. Myls feels they need to be destroyed completely so they can someday retake the homeworld.
On Romance: Myls is normally a strong character, he softens around one other person. He has fallen so completely for Uli'narah it is overwhelming. His demeanor in private changes with her.
Weapon of Choice: Adas Anti-Synthetic Rifle is a devastating weapon against the Geth. And for those that need a little extra umph he has a ML-77 Missile Launcher.
Uli'Narah Nar Yaska
In keeping with standard way of things Biotic Quarians do not go through the regular pilgrimage, instead they are sent for specific training for the rare gift. As such Uli'Narah Nar Yaska found herself on Thessia for her biotic training. Upon returning to her birth vessel she entered the Fleet Marine Force a move not even her parents saw coming. Uli was known as the quiet type, but her biotic instructors saw past the shell bringing out the tiger hidden underneath all along. Uli loves control, and it showed in her fighting style. While normally demure, as her ire begins to rise so does her temper and language. When chosen for the Spec Ops it was an easy choice. Unknown to her however her commander Dani'Breizh was contacted by her parents to look out for their daughter. Dani saw the use immediately.
On the Geth: It is not surprising the Uli believes that the Quarian people should regain Control of their former servants. The Geth are tools nothing more.
On Romance: Uli is attracted to power. On Thessia she was involved with one of her instructors not only gaining knowledge but making herself more powerful along the way. Currently she is involved with Myls'Stanis Vas Qwib Qwib. Not only is he strong and fearless, he is completely in love with her. And her with him if she would admit it to herself, but for now she likes controlling their relationship.
Weapons of Choice: Uli's primary choice of Biotics involve nailing a target down such a Sigularity. Once contained she will unload on them with her Geth Plasma Sub Machinegun. And if the doesn't work she will unload a full clip from her Scorpion on them.
Zen'Ratha Vas Honorata
For Zen's pilgrimage he hopped ship to ship offering his engineering skills practically for room and board to get the most exposure to different systems and equipment. As such he picked up a lot of culture along the way. Although surviving on the bare essentials is for the dogs so he soon used his engineering abilities to pick through locks and programs to get something extra for himself. Returning to the fleet he was accepted onboard the Honorata, a science vessel. But on a mission to scour for tech his group came under Geth attack. Utilizing drones, sentries, and overriding programs he was able to defend the party. While not a complete success, people still made it home. The Honorata's captain enrolled Zen into the Fleet Defense Force. Zen's use of creative work around's was not always cared for by the higher ups, opting to find a means to an objective that didn't always mean destroying Geth. Special Ops saw its uses though, in particular Dani'Breizh.
On the Geth: Zen is smart enough to realize he doesn't know everything about the Geth or how the war started, and to his analytical mind that means there isn't enough to go on. He knows the Geth are dangerous, but he also understands that they just aren't robots, they are sentient and intelligent. That tends to put him in with the Apologists. He wants peace, but he's not naïve enough to just lay down his weapon to get it.
On Romance: Zen is heterosexual, but inexperienced with women. He is attracted to both Quarian and Terran women. He is also a bit of a pervert and has been caught more than once perusing the extranet for videos.
Weapons of Choice: Zen's primary weapon is his Combat Drone. Maximized to throw out as much damage as possible. As far as firearms go he uses a Black Widow sniper rifle which he acquired from a dead Salarian found near a Geth Bunker. For those up close and personal moments he has an Arc Pistol to light up an enemy's face.
To read about the adventures of Echo Squad you can start with my story Dreadnought. A Mass Effect story which takes place before the first game, a bit of a Prequel if you will. Take a look here;
Echo Squad - Dreadnought part 1
The Terran long range shuttle dropped out of the high velocity it had been in, shot from one mass relay slowing now in front of another mass relay. Firing its braking thrusters it decreased its speed further pulling back around skimming over and coming to a halt directly above the up fork of the relay itself. Once there it held position as if waiting for something.
Inside at the primary of the dual helm positions Dani'Breizh Vas Yaska powered down the controls and looked over to the drone floating above the secondary helm position. Below the drone she could see legs poking out from beneath the console.
“You done screwing around with that thing? We’re at the final relay.” She asked with less than her normal bubbling enthusiasm.
“Bos’tet!” Zen'Ratha Vas Honorata cursed before his hand shot out from under the console throwing a circuit card like a flying star.
“What was that?” Dani asked.
“Hoo-man technology at its finest.” Zen c
Echo Squad - Dreadnought part 2
“Bout time.” Dani said as Myls’Stanis walked into the cargo bay. She was busy configuring something on the display on the forward bulkhead of the compartment. Uli'Narah sat on a crate leaning against the rear bulkhead while Zen was against the far side of the cabin tinkering with his drone that was hovering next him. Myls set down next to Uli.
“Okay,” the squad leader started “We all know this was as last second as missions get, but by now we are a used to that. But the reason that we got sent out here in a human freighter will be obvious in a moment. Six days ago a long range radio telescope got lucky and picked up the emissions of a large vessel coming to the last jump point we just passed. It was barely in range of other optical sensors but we were able to get this.”
An image popped up on the screen and everyone just stared. Whatever they had been doing wasn’t important. Zen’s arms fell slowly and his drone disappeared. Myls gave
Echo Squad - Dreadnought part 3
Everyone had crowded into the small cockpit. Zen was in the primary pilot’s seat, the holo-display lit up in front of him. Uli had come in and sat down in the only other chair in the forward cabin. In front of her was a display that filled with static interspersed with images of space. There was so much light across all the spectrums is was causing havoc with the visual display. She sat there quietly waiting, hating that they we essentially flying in blind.
Myls had come in a short time later, putting his hand on her shoulder as he moved in behind her chair. She reached up gently squeezing his finger before crossing her arms in front of her chest. Myls saw the display and knew. Uli didn’t like not knowing, it irritated her. She did well keeping it hid, but he knew. Uli didn’t like being scared, it tended to piss her off. But this wasn’t anything she could control. They were quite literally flying in blind. Myls leaned back against the bulkhead resting
